Heralding Call of Evil Tidings – Part III

Let’s just say the carpet guy didn’t show up on time.

This brings us to the final installment of my weekend of Terror. Continuing where we last left our adventure…

I then spend an hour cleaning the parts of my bathroom that the two of them missed and wait for the floor to dry (because apparently when you’re done cleaning a floor you mop it with water and leave the water sit until it dries).

I’m able to shower and use the john and my Sunday passes with the realization of what I’ve just experienced washing over me, bathing me in revulsion and disgust.

Monday rolls around and I have to come home during the lunch hour to meet the carpet cleaners. When I arrive I see two men showing an unprecedented amount of ass crack working in a hole outside my front door. They show me the roots they found in the pipe (that had supposedly been cleared twice now) and I’m faced with two 8-10 inch long bunches of roots that look like a poorly braided rope the width and breadth of which matching the diameter of a three inch pipe. Having seen them I have no idea how anything passed through that pipe at all, much less cooking grease and other assorted things.

The carpet cleaner comes in and informs me that the rest of my carpet needs cleaning too and gives me a price to take care of it while he’s there. Sure jackass, just do what you came here for and get out so I can go back to work. Joe comes in and starts asking them about how much water they’ve sucked out … guy tells him that with this kind of mess they needed to sanitize it with a spray and then wash it. There’s a back and forth where Joe keeps on with the sucking of water, and the other guy keeps saying “No we need to SANITIZE IT” until one or both of them give up and start packing up to leave.

Joe comes in and tries to tell me that they must have had some really amazing machine to suck all that water up so quickly. I inform him that the carpet is all still wet from the sanitizing spray they used and the washing they did. He hears that and it finally registers (I think) that if he and the Chinese lady had left me with their no-steam-involved  Steam Cleaning job that we’d all be in trouble. Who knows, maybe he didn’t connect the dots. Either way he leaned down, felt that the carpet was wet and eventually left me alone.

So long Joe.

I hope I never have to go through anything like that again. Ever.

Lessons learned:

  • There’s no valve you can twist that will keep things from coming up. Dire need for an invention here.
  • There are 24 hour plumbers and roto-rooters that will come and provide you with a temporary fix.
  • Land ladies/lords suck. Dealing with them is always a pain no matter how nice they are.
  • Moaning dogs sound like moaning women to the untrained ear.
